WC Eaket High Reaches the Top!

Northern Ontario Secondary School Reach for the Top senior and junior finals were held in Manitouwadge March 24^th and 25^th; competing teams included host Manitouwadge High School (MHS), WC Eaket High School (WCEHS) from Blind River and Elliot Lake High School (ELHS) also sent teams. The semi-finals were played round-robin style elimination, within each game teams were put through three rounds of questioning, categories ranging from Science and Politics to Pop Culture ensuring that winners needed more than traditional ‘book smarts’ to take 1^st place.  In the end, it was the team from WC Eaket High School, coached by teacher Warren Wiebe who stole the show with both their junior and senior teams taking the first place trophy.

Manitouwadge High School’s teams (Jr. & Sr.) took 2^nd place, while Elliot  Lake High School went home with third place. credited the win to good distribution of knowledge amongst members of both teams “And teamwork, both our [junior and senior] teams communicated really well, they put everything we practiced to use and I was very pleased” said Weibe.  The next stop for the WCEHS team in their Reach for the Top journey is Toronto where they will be competing in late April against approximately 25 teams representing regions from Southern Ontario; team Captain Fraser Evans explained that they would be increasing practices considerably “It’s a whole new level of play, the best thing we c an do to prepare is absorb as much information as possible”.
