Is your child ready for JK?
Best start school readiness extended
by Karina Hunter
The Manitouwadge Best Start Hub’s Annual School Readiness program is back and this year’s program is better than ever. Hub Program Supervisor Kelly Sagle and Prenatal Programmer Reene Warren welcome all children registered to begin Junior Kindergarten in September 2010 to join them for 8 weeks of school readiness preparation practicing socialization, independence, pre-writing skills, taking turns and more from 1-3pm Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 7th.
Sagle was thrilled to confirm that this year’s programming is extended from it’s original 3 weeks to a full 8 week schedule “It’s so exciting to be a part of such an important stage in their lives, I love to watch as the children develop their independence and confidence” said Sagle as she reflected on the successes of past participants. It was clear in speaking with her that this is a very special part of her work at the Hub and one of her favourites among the many important programs she offers families. The program is parent-free, children are dropped-off and follow a very structured agenda mirroring the experience they will enjoy once attending JK, the schedule even includes, when weather permits, free time outside at the end of the day; necessary explained Sagle, to mark the end to afternoons which many children prefer to continue in spite of their caretakers’ arrival for pick-up. Participating in school readiness programs can help little ones to becomecomfortable being away from their caregivers in a safe, child friendly atmosphere while developing the early learning skills and discipline they will need to succeed at school.
Deadline to register your child is March 26th, to register or for additional information, contact Kelly Sagle during the Hub’s regular office hours at 826-2883.
