Hockey ends with 16 stiches
Manroc Men’s Open hockey scrimmage March 27rh, accident video at bottom of post below article (scroll down).
Mens’ Open Hockey, sponsored all year by Manroc Developments Inc., ended in Manitouwadge Saturday; a group of about a dozen regulars and several more floaters attended the Recreation Centre Arena every Saturday for 2 hours of scrimmage – a great way for the men to keep in shape and unwind after the week’s demands of work or family.
Unfortunately for James Housser, the season did not wrap up on the best foot, um, skate… With just 13 minutes left on the clock, Daniel Charron is feet from the net when he receives a pass and returns a slapshot attempting to score one last goal. Charron’s shot goes wide and is received by Housser who, standing among several players in front of the net, stops the puck with his face; more specifically his mouth deflecting it to the goal post (nearly making a goal of Charron’s unfortunate sh. Housser drops to the ice though only momentarily, he struggles to his feet with help from teammates and leaves the ice of his own accord to go into the change room and assess the situation as a significant amount of blood is pouring from his mouth. Housser’s lip is split in two and a tooth feels quite loose; he goes to the hospital emergency department expecting there will be stiches needed.
At MGH he is seen and it is confirmed, a total of 16 stiches are sewn in place to hold his lip together and the tooth will be lost. Though not the ideal way to end the 09-10 season, it will no doubt serve as a lasting memory of this year’s plays and Housser seems to be taking it all in stride.
I have been promised an after photos and will post it when received, for now here is the video of the incident and a photo taken prior to his receiving stiches.
Before photo to be posted Sunday @ Noon (come back); after photo to be posted Tuesday evening.
