SNL – Adult Learning Centre in Nipigon

The Adult Learning Centre is located at 177 Railway Street in Nipigon. The Program Coordinator is Bonnie Cordone who can be reached at 887-3654 or by email at bcordone@shaw.ca.
The Centre serves the are of Nipigon, Red Rock, Dorion and Red Rock Indian Band. The centre offers a quiet environment for studying and offers free faxing and photocopying services. Please call the centre for details on any of the services they provide.
The Centre provides the following services to the communities:
- Provides academic upgrading up to the Grade 12 equivalent (GED)
- Offers upgrading in reading, writing and math
- Provides one to one upgrading tutoring and small group instruction and tutoring
- Teaches basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Power Point
- Provides access to Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor to improve basic typing skills
- Services are available for local employers to upgrade their employees essential skills in one of the nine area: document use, reading text, working with other, oral communications, numeracy, computer use, and continuous learning
- Career choice guidance using an interest indicator computer program that helps identify your strengths and weaknesses
- Essential Skills training
Leaning Assessment Programs Offers a variety of mini courses to assist in guiding individuals in certain workforce areas
- Offers workforce related courses such as workforce numeracy
- Provides applications for General Educational Development (GED) testing
- Assists in preparing for the GED test
- Applications for GED testing dates, list of testing dates
The Adult Learning Centre has a computer lab for those individuals interested in job searches and more. The lab can also be used for those interested in short term (1-2 hour) e-learning courses and for those individuals who require the use of computer working towards college courses.
SNL Adult Learning Centre is part of the Employment Ontario framework and is funded by Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
