Wawa IP1 Timbits Tournament
Copper Kings’ IP1’s impress in Wawa
by Karina Hunter
Manitouwadge’s youngest hockey stars, players from 4-7yrs old in the IP1 League, traveled to Wawa Saturday, February 20th to participate in the Wawa TimBit Jamboree against teams from Dubreuilville, Chapleau, and Wawa. A very long dayco nsisting of 3 games (with three, 12 min. periods each + warm-up) and a Skills Competition did not succeed in wearing down the hockey fanatics as they won all 3 of their games. Coaches Karly Baker and Toby Mattson alternated on the ice and in the bench as in spite of their fierce hockey skills, some of the young players still prefer to have their coaches close by when on the ice.
For the skills competition teams were divided equally into 4 groups sharing the ice which was quartered into stations; 2 focusing on goal scoring, 1 speed race and 1 skating skills station where the players maneuvered around a course of pylons. The players received loot bags and medals for their efforts as well as special recognition for the skills at which they were most proficient. The Copper Kings talents did not go unnoticed with many coaches and parents from the other teams inquiring in regards to what type of training was being done with the talented young players. Congratulations to all those who participated!
