Senior and Junior Girls Volleyball teams and the Junior Boys Basketball team from Michipicoten High School traveled from Wawa, January 2nd, to face off in Manitouwadge against their Manitouwadge High School (MHS) Wolverines Counterparts in the North Superior Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA), Central Division Finals.

Junior Girls needed play only two sets, which the Wolverines won 25-15 and 25-10 to extend their undefeated streak to 13 straight matches as they  prepare to defend their 2008-09 NSSSAA Champions title later this month.  Junior boys kept the pressure on the Vikings winning their game and overwhelming 69-21.  The team has dominated opponents all season, with a versatile offense and tight defense carrying a perfect 6-0 record into NSSSAA finals.  It is clear that Manitouwadge High School continues to raise the level of play among NSSSAA competitors; this is being credited in large part to the dedication of coaches who typically train their junior teams 6 days a week – a practice schedule unheard of at the opponents’ schools.

Wolverines Seniors Girls prevailed, under pressure to pull out a win and secure home court play for NSSSAA finals on February 17th and 18th, as they dug deep to win against the Vikings 25-20, 18-25 and 15-6 in the morning match, and 25-19 and 25-20 in the afternoon game.  This is the first time since 2001-02 that a Wolverine’s Sr. Girls Volleyball team has been to the finals.
