GAC 2010 Heritage Supper
Heritage citizens recognized at multicultural celebration
by Karina Hunter
The Manitouwadge Golden Age Club hosted a full house this weekend for a multicultural feast, the 2010 Pot Luck Heritage Dinner. Attendees, wearing red and white in honour of the country they now love as home, were encouraged to bring favourite ‘down home cooking’ dishes representing their heritage. The shared feast included such delicacies as true English Shepherd’s Pie, Swedish Meatballs, English Trifle, many East Coast Entrées, Italian pastas and Ukrainian Cabbage Rolls, the banquet continued with a table full of desserts; Scottish Shortbreads complemented a variety of sumptuous German and indulgent French desserts, treats clearly not intended for those watching their waist-lines.
Following supper, Ena Quade and Paul and Marleen Donaldson were each recognized, with framed certificates, as Heritage Citizens; Manitouwadge residents who through their volunteerism, community spirit and Golden Age Centre involvements have bettered the town by sharing their own heritage and the enriching that of the community as a whole. Author Pauline
Dean was then surprised with recognition of her dedication and volunteerism also being presented with a framed certificate. The evening continued with entertainment which included vocalist Judy Kett, pianist Cathy Drapeau, The Rewounds, prizes for Best Red & White Attire, Spot Dances, Baby Contest identifying GAC Members through photos of their infancy and plenty more fun. Congratulations to Quade & the Donaldsons our community is enriched through your contributions.
