Father & Daughter sweep races at Kiwissa

The Kiwissa Ski Club held their annual Frost Days Races February 12th and in spite of windy, cold weather at the Kiwissa Ski Centre in Manitouwadge, skiing zealots came out and clocked some great times. A slalom style course was set up on the Main Run for experienced skiers with a similar, smaller course on the Practice Hill for beginners and little ones; father/daughter team of Al and Alana Zawadski took first place wins on each of the couses.
On the Main Run skiers clocked some very impressive times the podium results were: 8-11yrs 1st Joey Russard, 2nd Brooke Sagle, 3rd Janelle Russard; 12-17 yrs 1st Alain Beaulieu with a time of 38.88 seconds; 18+ yrs 1st Al Zawadski (34.5 sec), 2nd Adam Gauthier, 3rd Rob Scapinello, club President Ed Hedderson was pushed out of the top three with just tenths of a second between he and Scapinello. Snowboarders racing on the same course on the Main gave an impressive show of their own; in the 12-17 year old category Matt Budgell took 1st place with a time of 45.62 while 2nd place was claimed by Derrek Labbée. 18+ snowboarders in the top three; Kirk Tourout earned his 1st place title completing the run in 41.65 seconds, 2nd was Paul Richard, 3rd Alexis MacNeil.
On the Practice Hill, young Alana Zawadski repeated Dad’s win placing 1st among skiers 7 and under; Katie MacTavish claimed 2nd place, in 3rd was Avery Schut. The day’s youngest skier, 4 year old Emeraude Charron was given a participation prize, recognizing her success in completing the course without missing a single pole! Result for the 8-9 year old category on the Pratice Hill were William Pellitier in 1st and Mia MacMillan taking 2nd.
