favourite players and support the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group (MCAG) a non-profit organization supporting locals battling with cancer. On the ice, the Copper Kings Alumni Teams included past and present stars of the Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association (MMHA) representing every decade since the 1960’s through to present day puck-handlers who were included during intermission as teams of players from IP through Peewee leagues took the ice to show their skills in an exhibition scrimmage. Game organizer, Toby Mattson was proud to announce that a total of $2,800 was raised during the event which included a 50/50 draw, chuck-a-puck game, shoot for a jersey competition and a silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses; he credited the event’s success to the support he received from numerous businesses, organizations and volunteers, including friend Aaron Baker an MMHA coach who oversaw the event in his absence. Fundraising through hockey was an obvious choice for Mattson “Hockey is one of our [Manitouwadge] greatest assets” said attson in regards to the motivating factors behind planning the event. Directing the funds collected to the MCAG an easy decision “Many people in our community have been affected by cancer and all moneys raised by the MCAG stay local” he explained. Bragging rights for the evening went to the White Team with a final score of 9-6 though the event’s big winners are those who will receive support from the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group.
