A solo is performed on flute during one of the early peices.
Last week, elementary and secondary school students from Manitouwadge, Marathon and Terrace Bay were treated to performances from the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (TBSO) at local venues. Concertmaster, Stéphane Potvin, adapted each performance to the age group it was presented to. At the elementary school performances, he introduced children to basic musical theory, chords (major, minor, augmented and diminished) this lesson accompanied by the keyboardist and the parts of an orchestra including wind, string, brass, percussion. Each group of instruments playing a selection independently, allowing the young listeners to better identify them within the sounds of the orchestra. The secondary students were presented to more advanced musical theory and interpretations of the pieces.
Concertmaster Stéphane Potvin introduced each of the peices suggesting to the children which instruments or movements within the songs to listen for.
The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra continues its holiday schedule with their traditional Holiday Pops on December 12th at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium at 8 pm. Enjoy many Christmas favourites when the Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus, Rafiki Youth Choir, Dulcisono and Thunder Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra join the TBSO, and delight in the sights of sounds of scenes from The Nutcracker with students from Experience Dance, all under the baton of conductor candidate William Intriligator.
