Alumni play for cancer patients
Here is the first 1/2 of those photos shot at last Monday’s Alumni game, I will post the remainder soon with an article.

This was an incredible game, the stands were packed with fans, the little ones at intermission played like pros (there was a mix of every age from IP to Peewee and the older kids were great at sharing when the puck got to a little one; my Emeraude for example even got the chance to ‘pass’ three times!). There was a silent auction with some really decent items donated by local businesses (had I been approached I would’ve loved to have been involved) I bidded on a set of ceramic vases & containers which I had my eye on at the Home Hardware for a couple years now [literally] and was happy to hear my name called as a winner when they closed the silent auction.
In spite of the game being in good fun there were some fairly intense moments during play (I even had Lloyd bring his sister out for popcorn at one point, concerned that her Dad and another player seem to be engaged more aggressively than the other skaters). I have yet to speak with organizer Toby Mattson regarding a final total of $ raised (or a final score for that matter – though I did stay until the very end for my photo of the teams. I would like to take this opportunity to give a plug to the businesses/organizations which Toby recognized, here is the message he had included on the back of the program:
Thank You
I would like to start off by thanking all the fans and everyone who donated to this great cause. I would like to say a special thank you to the major sponsors of this great event who were very charitable and open hearted, Manroc Developments,
The Echo,
without you this great event could [not] have happened. I would also like to thank Franks, The Cancer Assistance Group and The Cow for donating all of the food; it makes the event that much better. Next I would like to thank all of the very generous local businesses who donated prizes towards our silent auction.
In addition to our sponsors, I would like to send a great thank you to Rob Mackinnon for creating the flyers and programs. A special thank you goes out to Eric and Neil Esarte and Randy Mattson for donating gifts for the ause. Subsequently, I would like to thank all the players, because without [them], this game would not be possible. They always put forth their best efforts to keep the game as exciting as possible for the loyal fans. Last but definitely not least, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who help make this event happen as smoothly as possible. The list of individuals who lend a helping hand in creating this event is far too long to name each and every one of them. Thank you all for your continued generosity, commitment, devotion and most importantly, support. I can’t express how much it means to me to be involved with such amazing people. From the
bottom of my heart I thank everyone.
Sincerely, Toby Mattson
