Alumni score $2800 for cancer assistance
by Karina Hunter
December 21st, Copper Kings Alumni came out to play in support of the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group and scored big as approximately 150 fans filled the stands at the Manitouwadge Recreation Centre Arena. At this, the 2nd Annual Copper Kings Alumni Game, the White Team won bragging rights with a final score of 9-5 though the game’s big victory was the $2800 raised for locals battling cancer. Organizer Toby Mattson credited the game’s success to the businesses, organizations and volunteers who generously gave their time, energy and donations including Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association coach, Aaron Baker who, in Mattson’s absence, ensured the evening’s activities ran smoothly. The game
included an intermission scrimmage by the MMHA’s stars of tomorrow, the majority of these were IP League players, 4-6 yrs of age with the teams rounded out with players representing every level up to the Peewee League; there was also a Chuck-a-Puck game for those in the stands, a shoot off for a jersey, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw each of which contributed to the total funds raised.
