Remembrance Day
Here is a great activity for elementary school kids based on the poem “In Flander’s Feilds” you can print in colour or as a colouring book. As suggested on the page, I printed the cover in colour (I used card stock to make it more like a real cover) and the pages black and white so that Emeraude could colour it as we discussed the poem.
Another activity young kids love is making collages, yesterday we took a bunch of catalogues, magazines and the day’s newspaper and talked about things that we wouldn’t have or couldn’t do was it not for the men and women who have faught to defend our freedom. She used stamps to put “I AM FREE” across the top, cut out the pictures she chose herself and glued them to two peices of coloured construction paper. She also glued on a poppy. It was an activity that was cheap & fun and really gave us a great opportunity to think about what freedom means, how there are many people living in countries where they still do not have the the basic liberties we enjoy.
