Late night crafting…
Had to share these photos of Emeraude sewing a new puppet Sunday night; she hasn’t been feeling very well (about 4 days now of 101 – 103 temp even when medicated but the doc at emerg Sunday evening gave us a Rx to bring to Th.Bay in case she doesn’t get better while we’re gone) and so we haven’t been going over board with homeschooling activities. Grandmaman picked us up some new craft projects on her last trip to Th.Bay however and a girl can only hold off on crafting for so long.
I remember doing felt sewing projects like this when I was young, something I just loved and ‘sew’ :read SO: (pardon the pun he hee hee) it is really neat to see Emeraude enjoying them as well (Lloyd did when he was really young but the man in him didn’t get hooked on it). Sewing is a great fine motor skill activity and if, like me, you aren’t often in the city to find these kits well, you can purchase hole punches which are smaller than standard to pre-hole felt shapes yourself for little ones to sew. Earlier in the fall I had made stuffed apples for Emeraude by putting the following into a craft baggie: cut and pre-holed red felt (and green for a leaf which I glued on with crazy glue before hand) some quilt batting, yarn and one of her plastic needles, it was a hit as she had a lot of fun doing it and thought it was cool that “You made a kit like the store Mommy!”. You could do these for any occasion, Halloween could be a stuffed pumpkin, last Christmas Grandmaman had found a cute stocking kit that I intend to make a copy of myself this Christmas for E, valentine hearts would be nice maybe sewn in a chain, let me know you’re ideas (and don’t forget to include photos of the results!).
When a child (or parent) isn’t feeling to well it’s also a great ‘quiet craft’ as you can see in the photos, Emeraude was relaxing in my bed to make her elephant puppet and since there wasn’t much to glue, there was only bout 2 minutes which we had to move to the kitchen for.
I’m hoping to visit Micheal’s while in Thunder Bay this week and possibly pick up some new felt ideas or supplies 🙂
