Styling for Life
Styling for Life launches at local salons
by Karina Hunter
Storefronts of Manitouwadge salons were decorated with pink ribbons and balloons Thursday to mark the launch of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s (TBDHU) Styling for Life campaign which will continue to run throughout October. Staff at both Shear Talent and MJ’s Hair Salon were dressed or accessorized in pink to mark the special day and encourage inquiries and questions from customers. At Shear Talent, the Breast Health campaign hits very close to home, hair stylist, Karen Young proudly wearing a pink ribbon pin given to her by friend and client, Kay Hogan just a
day before her passing recently after a long and courageous fight with the disease.
Owners and stylists at both salons are very excited and proud to be part of the program, which, in addition to providing vital information about how women can take a proactive approach to their own breast health with self-exams and regular mammograms are also also offering women 50+ the opportunity to win a $100 gift certificate at their favourite salon! Visit Shear Talent, MJ’s Hair or Carole’s Mobile Hair Care for details.
What comes next for the campaign? Well, at MJ’s Hair Salon, stylists will be wearing pink every Thursday during October and at Shear Talent Hair Salon, booking your appointment for Thursdays in October could include a tasty surprise as stylists their have discussed offering a variety of pink snacks such as cupcakes or lollipops. The Echo would like to thank these salons on behalf of Manitouwadge residents for their partnership with TBDHU, encouraging local women to be healthy as well as beautiful!
