H1N1 & Seasonal Flu Vaccinations on Northshore
There are a lot of rumours circulating about whether or not people should get vaccinated for the H1N1 (swine) Flu and this year’s Seasonal Flu. I have not, in the
past, had my children vaccinated for the seasonal flu as I always thought it was good for them to build up their own immunities…That said, the seasonal flu never had the risk of death (or at least not the same odds of dying for healthy people who might contract it) that is associated with the H1N1 virus so, I have decided that I will bring my kids tonight (if they are allowed… Lloyd is very sick, seems to already have a flu so will have to call the family doc for what to do about that) and we will all be getting vaccinated for H1N1.
I just would not be able to live with myself if tragedy struck and all it would’ve taken to prevent it was a shot in the arm that is FREE! So, in the end we all have to make our own informed choices as to whether or not to get vaccinated. http://www.thunderbayflu.ca has information that can help you make that choice and you can of course speak with your own family doc or local District Health Nurse. If you decide to get vaccinated, here are the clinics on the Northshore where you can do so for FREEEEEEE! Will post info on how to be pro-active in regards to prevention later today, for now there’s only time to post clinic information for the Northshore… (on my
way to cover the Canadian Armed Forces @ MHS) J

For more information call your local Thunder Bay District Health Unit
office.
Here in Manitouwadge obviously Jackie Jung is not in the office as she’s working the flu clinics (Thank you Jackie!) as are some of the other nurses who would normally be in the local TBDHU offices.
TBDHU’s Toll-free number 1-888-294-6630
if you have any questions. I was told Lloyd should not get it since he is sick (but each person should call and describe their own symptoms to a nurse at the number above if they have concerns) I was also told that Emeraude as a 4 year old was in a ‘High Risk Group’ so she & I will be there this afternoon.
