Terry Fox Run update & progress
Only two more sleeps left until Sunday’s Terry Fox Run in Manitouwadge and Emeraude has not slowed down one bit! Her momentum is actually gaining after having received a very special package last night.
We were at Grandmaman’s having supper (we had parked the van there to canvas a few houses on the street) when Madelaine (bob’s taxi) knocked on the door with a large box. Emeraude was really excited to notice the iconic photo of Terry running on it, she knew it was something big!
what she didn’t know… I had emailed the School Department of the Ontario Teryy Fox Foundation asking if there was a way for me to purchase some tatoos for her (I had seen on the website that school’s that register and raise funds receive packages which include, among other things, tattoos). I told them a bit about Emeraude, her longtime interest in Terry Fox and his accomplishments and that she was thrilled this year to finally be old enough to be actively participating herself. And that she was working hard towards her goal of $1000 in sponsorship.
We opened it up, WOW! She was thrilled!!! There were posters, badges, shoe tags, a T-SHIRT!, tatoos, a newsletter (for schools that do fundraising) DVD’s and more… What impressed her in a huge way was a Thank you card signed by the staff of the Ontario office wishing her goodluck (that’s one for the scrapbook for sure!). She looked through everything again and again, “reading” the newsletter and other information (she doesn’t actually read yet but she sure told us alot about what she felt was going on in the photos). After some time, I explained that we had to be getting on our way home. Well, she wanted to try on the t-shirt and then we added a pin, and of course one of the tatoos… Once she had all that on I wasn’t surprised when she insisted we must go back out for some canvassing before going home! LOL.
As of supper time (Friday) she is now at $836.00 in pledges collected (on line + door-to-door). I am so proud of her. She’s having a lot of fun with it (though since being attacked thankfully he missed her by a few cm when her father quicly jumped to sweep her off her feet} by our neighbours dog 2 days ago when she was in our front yard with her dad, she is quite nervous when ppl have dogs though it is not stopping her from continuing, she just asks that I pick her up when our knocks inspire barking). It really is wonderful for her to be learning so young about what a difference one person can make.
We went to Marathon today for dental appointments for her & Lloyd and of course watched the Terry Fox DVD’s she received the night before the whole way up and back – very interesting!
Anyhow, only 2 sleeps left until run day so if you want to pledge, please visit http://www.terryfox.org/cgi/page.cgi/Run/participants.html/KA9958
