Emeraude show off her progress on the felt-frog door hanger.
Well, we survived our first official week of homeschooling… This week we had slow starts to our mornings as Emeraude still having issues sleeping through the night but I continue to try and find solutions to that and have not yet lost hope that it will be conquered (though the frustration of living with the consequences of someone else’s lazy, irresponsible behaviour, does anger me).
Anyhow, this week we returned to our schedule of morning stretches & excersizes after which Emeraude always loves to spend a good twenty minutes “dancing” on her trampoline, giving me the time to get some tidying and chores done.
Sewing is such a great exercise for fine motor skill development and using felt kits makes the practice fun!
This week Emeraude will be starting Nursery School again, this year she’ll be going Mondays & Fridays (last year she only went once/week) though tomorrow is Labour Day so just one day this week. We had the opportunity to meet her new teachers this week. Unfortunately we were not able to get a schedule and so I’m not sure what she’s up to Monday but hopefully they will have it then. I hope to use the days she is at homeschool to take care of articles I have on deck (must get my desktop fixed to help make all things associated with being on the computere less time consuming). We started a craft as well this week. A great felt frog door hanger that is progressing well. On parle en Français pendant les jours de semaine et Emeraude parle de plus en plus. On semble en fin interresser!
Emeraude coats her stamp with glue to personalize the die cut apples.
Above & below, one of our crafts this week were apple-napkin-holders. We brought home die cut apple shapes from the Family Place and after Emeraude glued them together, I thought it would be fun to personalize them so we continued.
She was very careful with the stamps, when I gave it a try mine slipped around and we had to wipe it for her to fix lol.
Proud of her work Emeraude shows off her napkin-holder.
The red set finished and ready for napkins.
After receiving the die-cut apple shapes and inspired by the OEYC’s apple theme for the month we put together a little kit for Mme.Linda (programmer @ the Hub) for a felt sewing project. The photos below are of the kit, when Linda’s sewn it, I’ll try to get another photo. (this was so quick to put togther, I’m going to keep it in mind as a craft idea for Emeraude for other occasions… Linda said she planned on doing a similar pumpkin during October)
I hot glued a magnet on the back of one of the apple peices & suggested to Linda that when hot glue is necessary in the OEYC crafts, she could take care of it before hand (so that when a child finishes a craft, it really is finished).Quilt batting, a plastic needle (with a rounded end) and some embroidery floss completes the kit, I put it all into a ziploc bag with some basic instructions and it was done.
Had to punch them one at a time so once we did the first, I lined it up on the second and Emeraude used a fine point marker to mark it through the holes.
Lloyd’s week started out great. He’s seems to be getting into the routine of his classes. Volleyball is all consuming, I have to wonder if any of the coaches have families as they have the kids practicing 7 days a week (fridays it’s called open volleball instead of an official practice but it’s all the same as the kids are pressured to be there constantly or risk not being played like what happened with basketball last year) at supper time..??# It really is frustrating that they do not seem to realize the boys have families. I so dislike that we cannot have a single relaxed family supper together the entire school week thanks to these ridiculous schedules (oh yeah, did I mention there are also lunch practices 3 week days). ANyways, he enjoys his classes so far and I can’t wait to talk with Nonnie Keri and tell her he is crazy about drama class (wouldn’t have guessed it but am thrilled as it could help with modelling as well as over-all confidence and self esteem).
The week to an ugly turn Friday. Lloyd had been excited all week, looking forward to ‘maggot party’ at Sand Lake (to welcome the grade 9’s to high school). 4 of his friends were returning from swimming there when their truck lost control and Jamie-Lee Hoban, a wonderful young woman, lost her life, the other 3 suffering some serious injuries and emotional trauma I can’t even begin to imagine. So, Lloyd has since spent most of the weekend at the school which the principal had the good sense to open. At least the kids here all seem to lean on each other and support each other through difficult times and the teachers obviously back them up with this. Emeraude & I wanting to find a way to help brought a tray of sandwiches we made, a couple cases of pop and a veggie tray we bought from Franks to the school yesterday (there was a lot of other food/snacks there as others obviously had the same idea). {aside: if you ever need a veggie or fruit tray Franks’ makes wonderful trays that look great at any price point} Anyways, needless to say this has put the breaks on sports and school as he tries to deal with losing a very good friend.
