Swimming lessons @ the Oasis Pool
My beautiful Emeraude at her swimming lessons @ the Manitouwadge Oasis Pool. This foam canoe is a favourite with the kids. I am so proud of how well she is doing. She has some trust issues that when the instructors are asking her to lay back and relax (something she does in the tub with no problem and actually enjoys alot doing so without prompted) she stays stiff but that will come with time. I am hoping as part of our homeschool schedule this winter as I will need to be going to Marathon for weekly accupuncture anyways that the opportunity to have her in lessons there will be available. (I will pray on it 🙂 as I prefer not to leave these sort of things to chance) as I think the issue is irregularity of lessons (her last session was over a year ago as our public pool is outside.
She isn’t actually in private lessons, it just worked out that way, probably in part due to her being registered in this late season, August session. Often, temperatures in Manitouwadge can really drop in August so many parents try and get their kids swim lessons out of the way earlier in the summer.
The instructors at our pool are all rather young (the young man in charge is, I think, still in college) but so professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, kid-friendly… I remember back when I was young, what a big deal it was for an adult that was close to me to have the fence door opened that she might watch my lessons (she was in a wheelchair often and when she wasn’t was limited in her energy levels/physical abilities). Well, I was diagnosed with MS in 2006 and have not wanted to miss my kids lessons because of this (and why should I) and I certainly haven’t had any excuse to do so. This year, like those since ’06, I told one of the lifeguards I preferred to have the fence opened rather than come down the huge flight of stairs that most people must use to access the pool. Not only was I accomodated that time, I have been without even needing to ask every time since! Just incredible that they have been so considerate, helpful and respectful. It can be really degrading to have to explain yourself when it comes to physical limitations and I am happy to brag that there is no need for this at our swimming pool! Though I have not always received the same respect and consideration at our hospital!! (how ridiculous is that??)There were no questions as to why I needed the fence opened it is just done anytime they see me coming up the hill, Great Job! Thank you to the lifeguards for making it so easy for me to enjoy my kids swimming lessons and public swims as well!
