Community campfire in Manitouwadge

by Karina Hunter

As part of Wadgefest celebrations, the Manitouwadge Fire Department volunteer firefighters hosted a community bonfire Friday, August 7th, 2009.  Residents gathered at Lion’s Beach on the shore of Lake Manitouwadge where a huge playground, swings, permanent washroom facilities, beautiful park and a large lighted pavilion offer everything needed for a great evening party. Ad in great music and free marshmallows for everyone; a seemingly limitless supply of pre-prepared baggies with either a ½ dozen marshmallows or complete fixings for 2 smores, and it is no surprise that most people stayed out with family and friends long after the sun had set.  Our Lady of Lourdes parish sold glow sticks and glasses which were a great hit with kids and kids at heart and the sight of glowing everywhere was great fun.  During the festivities, the group gathered together to pose for a photo to be submitted to CTV’s Canada AM, morning show hoping to be the largest group of ‘jumping’ people photographed for the jump photo contest.
