Homeschool – Science of the swamp

Well, kind of, we weren’t actually in a swamp but rather on the shore of Manitouwadge Lake.  To read the article I submitted to the Chronicle & Echo after this adventure, click here: http://www.karinahunter.com/?p=4138

Emeraude and I heard that the tadpoles had arrived @ Lion’s beach and so Monday, July 9th we decided we needed to get some to bring home for our frog habitat. This is the 3rd year that Emeraude and I collected tadpoles like this to take home and watch as the grow into frogs (I can’t remember how many times Lloyd and I did this when he was younger).

It is a great project to do with kids as there is little or no cost (we are lucky enough to have a fancy habitat Lloyd received as a gift from his Aunt & Uncle but when I was young we just used margarine containers with holes punched in the lids) and gets kids seeing the larger world around them.  It’s also SO cool for kids to watch as the tadpoles grow legs and arms and their tales disapear (that is by the way, where most of their nourishment comes from).

Above video from Youtube.com:  Don’t have your volume too high as they really can make your ears ring lol.
