Busy day
Yet another post about Canada Day… It ended up being quite hectic and I am once again blessed to have patient, easy going children. At one point Mom picked us up just to turn around 1/2 way down the street and drop us off at home again when I realized we were in fact an hour ahead of schedule. I was so worried about arriving late for the opening ceremonies as I had my injection at the hospital just 15 minutes prior, 14h45, when I should actually have been there already speaking to those in charge and getting details for my article.
I did call and ask the ER nurse to see if I could receive the injection 15 minutes ahead of schedule but I don’t know if she was not able to reach the doctor or if he just said no but I ended up waiting there until 14h45 before recieving it anyways, this was hard as I had cancelled Lloyd going early on my behalf thinking arrangements had been made. I so dislike arriving to things late for no good reason. I should have a prescription for these meds; this would have meant that earlier in the day I would not have been waiting behind a more urgent patient and subsequently would not have needed to receive the afternoon injection early – so frustrating and I continue to wonder if there will be any recourse for my income lost unnecessarily for the past 7 months.
ANYHOW, Emeraude, Grandmaman and I attended a very uneventful opening ceremonies, the mayor decided not to attend as had been scheduled originally (not sure of the details of this so do not want to criticize) so that the cake cutting did not actually happen until well after 3pm (around 15h20) meaning my late arrival went quite unnoticed *phewf*.
We enjoyed some barbecue before Grandmaman headed back home. Emeraude had been eyeing up the pool and was excited when I asked if she was interested in taking a dip. I was not in great shape (as per the usual) and so decided not to bother getting into my swimsuit in the hopes that I would last longer on my feet and give Emeraude a chance to actually participate. She swam in the baby pool for a while before, to her delight, one of the lifeguards approached with a basket of rubber duckies for she and her friends to race. It was short and sweet, just one race back and forth in the little pool and was perfect. They gave the kids tickets to bring downstairs at the end of it, so they could go choose prizes, Thanks to Chelsea Prouxl who was nice enough to bring Emeraude downstairs where she picked up a cute spraying seahorse (like a watergun but prettier). There was no way I could’ve managed those stairs. Lloyd arrived just as she came back upstairs and offered to watch her swim for a while so she could stay as I ran home to submit a peice about the day and a photo to the Chronicle (When I called to let them know I had sent it I was pleasantly surprised that Reuben Valligracia, who used to be the editor of Northern Snowmobile & ATV Magazine, answered – I didn’t make the connection until after I hung up but was pretty sure this meant it would probably run in Sundays paper, and it did).
While I went home, as I said, Lloyd let her swim a little more and then brought her to the arena to watch his basketball tournament. Karly Avis (another sweet teenager) played some bingo with Emeraude to keep her entertained and safe as brother played. Lloyd’s team won in this, the 15&under tournament, each winning a $25 gift certificate to the Village (pizza & submarine). Afterwards he brought Emeraude back to the pool once again so she could swim. I arrived about an hour and a half after originally leaving, just as they were looking for me, to find Emeraude all bundled up in her brother’s sweater. I had, in my rush, taken the pool bag with me so they had no picnic blanket or towel 🙁 .
She was a little dissapointed at not having participated in any of the kids games but was quickly over it when I offered her another dip in the pool lol.
