Making recycled paper…

I had bought this kit for Vickie’s kids as a thank you to her for having driven us to Thunder Bay. In hindsight I could have purchased one for Emeraude right away also – if you’re interested, they’re at Walmart – because I knew it was something almost any child would enjoy.

Having used it however, I am releived that I did not buy another, all of what was involved in using the kit can be done with what you have in your kitchen (we are going to use the food processor next time in lieu of the ‘blender’ included in the kit as I am going to return it tonight) and the press isn’t the best quality. It has some serious design flaws  – we were working without instructions as Vickie couldn’t find them but did try many variations on assembly none of which were very good. It just doesn’t put much pressure on the paper and seemed like it would end up very thick. We ended up putting the ‘paper’ goo between two sheets of wax paper and Emeraude ‘pressed’ them with a rolling pin, so far so good, it isn’t dry yet but I think it is progressing nicely.

More photos related to this later when it dries and we try using it (Maybe for my nephew’s graduation card or our thank you card to Marilyn the firefighter as we finally touched base and have an appointment for our tour next Thursday, Woohooo!).
