Appointment w/Dr.Roddy
Title: Appointment w/Dr.Roddy
Location: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Description: Appointment with specialist, rheumatologist, Dr.Roddy trying to determine if there is something other than MS causing all my joint problems !!!
Date: 2009-05-05
The appointment went well… I was very lucky that Dr. Roddy was nice enough not to cancel in spite of my being quite late (over a half hour). I would have been more than just dissapointed had I messed it up seeing as it was the reason for going to Thunder Bay which costs alot of money I didn’t have to spend.
Dr. Roddy is very personable and I enjoyed meeting her. I had the impression that she may know more about MS than your typical rheumatologist which was also nice. She did do a couple physical tests, moving my legs and arms around to see the range of motion in my joints and guage the pain they cause. As usual, my shyness was a detrimant to the appointment (I am quite shy and this often interferes with things such as doctors appointments) as she would ask “Does this hurt” while performing the tests and of course I played it down not wanting to seem like a cry-baby but realizing after that she, being a specialist, probably makes very different deductions based on small variances in a patient’s pain & discomfort levels. Oh well, I think in the bigger picture it probably didn’t matter as she felt as I do, that my joint problems are nothing more than MS (she was aware of MS patients suffering from joint issues whereas most (if not all) of the other doctors I have and do deal with aren’t really that up-to-date in regards to details of MS or the very large scope of symptoms caused by the disease.
She added some bloodwork to my family doctor’s list from last week’s appointment as I had brought it in and let her take a look at it (he had mentioned that she’d probably order a slew of tests and so I hoped that by providing her with those I was already getting I’d at least avoid doubling any). I don’t expect that I’ll be seeing her again and am quite dissapointed at having to spend so much money and time (with these 3 days added, Lloyd has now missed too much school and cannot go on his soccer trip next week) for naught but need to look at the bright side that at least now my family doctor might take my thoughts a little more into consideration on matters opinion regarding symptoms and such from my living with MS.
