Aguasabond Gorge
I love, when travelling, to stop along the way and enjoy the sites. In our own region there are so many special things to see and do, I want very much for my children to see the beauty in our ‘own back yard’ and take advantage of living in such a naturally diverse part of the world.
Our driver, Vickie, was very easy going and tolerant of the many stops I asked to make.
Here, we are at the Aguasabond Gorge, just outside of Terrace Bay, ON. We have stopped here before but it never ceases to impress. There is a beautiful boardwalk that leads down to a breathtaking view of the gorge and it’s waterfalls. Several years ago when Daniel & I had stopped there with Emeraude, Lloyd and his friend Kody Freising we were able to follow a trail that took us along the right edge of the gorge but on this day it was roped off. I most likely would have passed anyways as the trail is quite precarious and I would have been nervous to have Emeraude walk it.
As it was, I made it down the boardwalk to the deck you see on these photos but Lloyd had to piggy-back me back up to the parking lot. He is so strong and I am always amazed at how easily he seems to carry me (I do weigh almost 130lbs!) as well as how willingly he does so. What a gentleman. Emeraude too was worn out from the walk in and Vickie carried her most of the way back.
The parking lot is only about 3 minutes off the highway and the boardwalk begins right from it. The boardwalk is probably only a few minutes walk for a healthy person and quite gradual in its descent. I definetely recommend the stop to anyone traveling Highway 17!
