05.14.09 PhotoPostPart3 Jell-O Variations
This is a really easy one. Be careful of course with the kettle… You can add almost any fruit to Jell-O but pineapple and, hmmm… I forget the other but they are listed on the box. We were making strawberry jelly and opted to add sliced bananas in ½ the batch and fruit cups (x2) in the other. We did not need to add any cold water to the ½ batch with fruit cups as 2 little fruit cups measured out to a cup of liquid/fruit chunks.
Emeraude chose the flavour of Jell-O and the add-ins but did not care for the strawberry + fruit cups when she tried them. Lloyd also preferred the strawberry + sliced bananas but I have yet to give him a bit of a hard time as I think he ate both of them. We had made 2 of each so both kids had both to try and Emeraude chose the fruit cup ones for her first desert and when she wanted to try her strawberry + sliced bananas the following day at lunch it was gone…
These are super quick deserts, can be made into smaller, re-sealable containers and keep well as a snack in a lunch box. We have also often added whipped cream (most Jell-O boxes have the instructions for this) which is a really cool one because you mix it directly into the Jello when making it and then it separates as it sets in the fridge so it has a neat science element that both the kids (and I); Lloyd (14 yrs) and Emeraude (3yrs) found interesting.
Still looking forward to hearing some recipes from readers and feedback on specific recipes such as this one regarding your variations… Don’t be shy!
