Batchewana First Nation Emergency Procedures
BATCHEWANA, ON – Batchewana First Nation (BFN) administration is working through a process of assessing the effects of last night’s heavy rainfall. The 3 communities of Batchewana First Nation that are occupied by residents, Rankin, Goulais and Obadjiwon each encountered varying degrees of damage.
So far the First Nation reports 30 households that have required emergency assistance.
The Batchawana Police Marine unit is providing emergency boat transportation from the Goulais government dock for residents, due to the closure of the Goulais mission main access road. The Goulais logging road is available as an alternate access point.
Leadership and staff are working diligently to ensure the safety of all citizens. Delegates have been sent to check on the well being of Elders and the community’s most vulnerable members.
Batchewana First Nation citizens are asked to contact the Band Office immediately in case of emergency, to report any damages, or safety hazards.
