Holy Angels School Students Share Their Experience At Skills Ontario Cardboard Boat Race

It was fast furious and fun! Tuesday, October 23rd, the Grade 8 students from Holy Angels Catholic School participated in the Skills Canada-Ontario Cardboard Boat Races in Marathon.
Student teams built their own boats out of cardboard and raced them across the Porthole Pool and the Marathon Recreation Centre. Each group had 2 pieces of 4×8 foot cardboard to use to build their boat. The 8 students were split into 2 teams to compete in the competition.
One Holy Angels team made it the length of the pool in 27 seconds and managed to hold 365 pounds in the weight challenge. The other team didn’t manage to make it across the pool and was unable to compete in the weight challenge due to the condition of their cardboard but what a learning opportunity as they were able to watch science in action.
After the competition the students relaxed before the results were announced to enjoy time with their friends from communities across the Northshore and Greenstone.
