PIC RIVER, ON – Sunday, July 24th the Ojibways of the Pic River First Nation held their 29th Annual Pow Wow at the Pic River Pow Wow grounds on the shores of the Pic. The theme for this year’s pow wow was “HONOURING ALL OUR RELATIONS”.
Jim Misquart was Master of Ceremonies for the weekend with White Tail Cree as Host Drum and Eagle Boy Co-Host Drum. Lead Dancers for the 29th Pic River Pow Wow were Mike Esquega & Carrianne Agawa.
It was a beautiful weekend in spite of some rain Saturday many people came out to camp and join in the celebration. Artisans had mocassins, jewellery and many other traditional crafts available for those needing something special to add to their regalia or a a souvenir to help remember the weekend.

The many colours and styles of regalia worn by those dancing and participating in ceremonies throughout the weekend were absolutely breathtaking and made for an impressive sight when viewed around the drums and with the river in the background.
For those looking to enjoy the tradition and beauty of a First Nation Pow Wow, visit the Pic Mobert First Nation Pow Wow Grounds next weekend August 3-5. If coming from the west (Marathon/Manitouwadge) you’ll see the signs on the left hand side of Hwy 17 when travelling towards Pic Mobert.
