MANITOUWADGE, ON – June 20, 2011 the Superior North Catholic District School Board Annual Invitational Track & Field was held, hosted by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.  Local public schools, Manitouwadge Public School (Superior-Greenstone District School Board) and École Publique Franco-Manitou (Conseil Scolaire Publique du Grand Nord de l’Ontario) accepted the invitation to attend along with SNCDSB schools from Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay.

Many volunteers worked throughout the day supervising a variety of events including running long, broad and high jump; 100, 800 and 1500 meter races, shot-put and other traditional Track & Field face offs.  Volunteers were also responsible for the lunch-hour barbecue which all students, particularly those who had travelled to participate, were quite appreciative.

Schools remained very competitive throughout the day, keeping scores relevant right up to the final race.  Organizers Karly and Aaron Baker worked diligently to ensure final results were promptly available presenting divisional medals and overall trophies as a wrap-up to the day (Mrs. Baker apologized for shortage of 1st place ribbons ensuring students they would be fwd to schools when available). In the end, with just 4 points between their school and that of the 2nd place Our Lady of Lourdes it was Marathon’s Holy Saviour Catholic School which took First Place Overall at the meet with 151 points.  Representing for their schools and towns, with 26 points Manitouwadge’s Jamie Thompson from École Publique Franco-Manitou and with 24 points Willie Michano from Holy Saviour Catholic School in Marathon placed highest for Girls and Boys respectively.
