MANITOUWADGE, ON – Recently, the grade 4/5 class brought their shovels to school so that they could plant the wonderful vegetables that the grade 2/3 students had grown in their classroom for the community garden. These grade 4 / 5 students spent an hour digging and planting cucumbers, beets, potatoes, onions and a beautiful apple tree that will hopefully fill many a belly over the years. This tree was purchased by the Elementary Teacher’s Federation of Ontario (ETFO) on behalf of our students. The class had directions from a few local gardeners; Mrs. Turner, Mr. Lavoie, Mrs. Denny, and Mrs. Dean.
Our students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 have been excited about the progress as they nurtured their seeds, and watched them grow to the transplanting stage. We just know that MPS has planted the seed of young farmers of the future!! Everyone had a wonderful time!
