Get ready, Northern Ontario: the RecycleYourElectronics.ca tour is coming to you!
Mobile electronics recycling centre begins its journey across northern Ontario this Saturday, inviting residents from Sault Ste. Marie to Sioux Lookout to “drive up, drop off and do good”
SAULT STE. MARIE – Residents in communities across Ontario will soon be getting a visit from the RecycleYourElectronics.ca tour, which kicks off a summer-long tour in Sault Ste. Marie this Saturday, May 28. Each tour stop will provide a convenient drop-off point for residents and businesses to safely recycle old, used and unwanted televisions, computers and dozens of other items free of charge, while also offering games, giveaways and a chance to learn more about responsible electronics recycling.
This tour is run by Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), which is tasked with diverting electronic waste from landfill to ensure hazardous components like batteries, leaded glass, and mercury containing bulbs are safely and responsibly recycled while valuable components like metal, glass and plastic are reclaimed and used to make everything from water pipes to coins.
The first stop on the RecycleYourElectronics.ca tour takes place Saturday, May 28 at the Station Mall, 293 Bay St (Section D of the parking lot). Residents and businesses are welcome to stop by any time from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and bring their electronics for recycling. The centre will also visit dozens of communities in the coming months, including:

- Timmins
- Chapleau

- Manitouwadge
- Thunder Bay
- Dryden
- Kenora
- Rainy River
- Fort Frances

- Red Rock
- Sioux Lookout
“Research shows that 90 per cent of Ontarians have at least one electronic item at home that they need to dispose of, so we know this stuff is out there,” said Carol Hochu, executive director, OES. “Last fall, our first-ever mobile tour visited 14 cities across southern Ontario, and was a hit with people looking to get rid of their unwanted electronics. This year, we’re particularly excited to bring the tour – and access to our program – to communities in northern Ontario.”
Residents in southern and rural Ontario will also have an opportunity to rid themselves of electronic clutter. The RecycleYourElectronics.ca tour will visit numerous festivals, fairs, concerts and sporting events throughout the summer and fall across the province, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the program while disposing of handheld devices, such as cameras and cell phones, for free.

Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) is a not-for-profit industry organization that oversees the responsible recycling of end-of-life electronics through hundreds of approved and affiliated collection sites across the province. The program began operations in 2009, and was developed with Waste Diversion Ontario on behalf of the Ontario government in compliance to the Waste Diversion Act.
