Since 2003, the government has supported the planning and construction of 400 new schools creating 237,000 spaces for Ontario students.

Today, Premier Dalton McGuinty toured one of the newest and most innovative Ontario schools to talk about how these new investments have benefitted students and our economy.

The new North Toronto Collegiate Institute opened in September. It includes a state-of-the-art performing arts theatre, more space to accommodate more students and a wireless IT environment with computer and science facilities. It’s built according to LEEDs standards to be a ‘green’ school — incorporating improved air quality and energy efficiency.

Investing in students and making schools better places to learn is an important part of the government’s Open Ontario Plan to strengthen education, which has already delivered results: smaller class sizes, higher test scores and an improved graduation rate.

These investments in education help create more opportunity for Ontario students, a better-educated workforce and a stronger economy for all Ontario families.
