MANITOUWADGE, ON – In spite of rain and cool temperatures, Saturday, September 11th, the 54km biking fundraiser for the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group (MCAG), initiated and organized by local Denis Lanteigne was held receiving much support from residents.
Lanteigne initiated the event, feeling that raising funds for a local non-profit while working on his personal goal to get healthier and back on the road enjoying his bike would help him stay focused while ensuring he followed the challenge through. The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group was an easy choice said Lanteigne, the local non-profit helps people living with cancer and all funds raised remain in Manitouwadge. Lanteigne’s goal, he trained throughout the summer to be able to ride 54.1km on his peddle bike – a distance equal to that of the trip from ‘The Corner’ (Intersection of Hwy 17 & 614) to the community of Manitouwadge by September 2010. Langteigne spent months training regularly and was very pleased when other bikers joined his fundraising efforts, also registering to make the ride.
Through the rain, Denis Lanteigne and Virginia & Jamie Thompson arrive.
Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group volunteers prepared a welcome reception at the Manitouwadge Recreation Centre where the ride ended and cheered the riders in as they completed their journey through the rain.
MCAG Executive Member (and volunteer) Jackie Jung offered this message to participants; “Many, many thanks to first the riders, Kristy, Denis, Virginia and Jamie!!!! Thank you for braving the rain and cool weather and gathering a fantastic amount of pledges to help our Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group. Also great appreciation is sent to the volunteers who helped Denis keep the riders safe – Lou and Matt Budgell, Jim Brown, Joan and Tessa Lanteigne and OPP Constable Rolly” Jung also thanked those who attended the welcome reception and cheered on the arrival of riders into town on behal of herself and the MCAG.
Congratulations to Denis Langteigne for spearheading this incredible event and to all those who participated to make it such a success!
