White Lake welcomes back a friend

WHITE LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK – May 18th, 2010 – White Lake Provincial Park officially opened this past weekend and though the park was fairly quiet much work is being done, preparing to welcome the many tourists who will enjoy the park during the summer months.
There are currently 4 student employees plus an additional 2 regular employees and a warden, managing White Lake. Among these is Natural Heritage Educator Shannon Farr who has returned for a third season at the popular Northshore park. Regular visitors to the park will remember Shannon as a creative programmer, enthusiastic leader and wealth of knowledge in regards to White Lake’s natural environment and the creatures, animals and birds who call it home. Farr’s love of provincial parks goes beyond her 3 years at White Lake, she has been employed by Ontario Parks for 7 years in total having also worked at Samuel de Champlain and Bon Echo Provincial Parks.

Farr begun working at provincial parks through the Ontario Ranger program which she explained gave her a ‘Fabulous opportunity to learn a deeper appreciation for the environment’. She has, this year, completed her post graduate studies at Dalhousie University where she earned her major in International Development and her minor in Environmental Sciences; she has not yet decided what will be her path come September 2010, but she is considering Law School as an option.
What does Farr have planned for Summer 2010 at White Lake? She will be re-vamping the Guided Walking and Cnoeing Tours which have been gaining momentum since she began her involvement at the park; Farr assured OntarioNewsNorth.com that the regular children’s programming and weekly campfires that so many come to the park for will of course be offered as well, details of all that White Lake will have to offer this summer to be updated regularly on www.OntarioNewsNoroth.com.

With the warm weather finally here, why not take the short drive to White Lake and welcome Shannon back to the Northshore, or visit one of the other Northshore Parks, Rainbow Falls, Obatanga or Neys Provincial Parks are waiting with many programs for kids of all ages to enjoy!
