MPS Grade 7/8 Students Continue Tradition of Assisting Diabetes Clothesline
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Clothesline® has been a national movement in Canada since 1985. Every year, Canadians are asked to keep Clothesline® in mind when they’re cleaning and getting rid of gently used clothing, electronics and small household items. In Manitouwadge, residents have been donating to the Canadian Diabetes Associaiton Clothesline® by dropping off their items in the lobby of the Manitouwadge Public School for many years.
When you donate with Clothesline®, everyone wins; your donation goes beyond helping the 9 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes.100% of net proceeds raised by Clothesline® directly support the Canadian Diabetes Association and world leading diabetes research, education and advocacy.
Donors feel good knowing their used items are going towards a worthwhile cause and that reusable items are recycled having a positive effect on the environment. For many years Manitouwadge Public School has been proud to be the drop off point for all residents of Manitouwadge to leave their donations for the Clothesline® and both students and staff are very pleased that this has continued for the 2012/13 school year.
Last week the Diabetes Clothesline® truck arrived in Manitouwadge and MPS Grade 7 / 8 students were once again front and centre to help out. Having the learned experience and positive example of past MPS seniors, along with the guidance of staff and teachers, has meant that each time the the task of loading the Clothesline® truck has taken less time. reaching the point that this year’s students, having ‘dragged’ themselves away from books and school work, executed the loading of 330 bags from storage to truck with impressive efficiency no doubt appreciated by the Clothesline® truck driver! As can be seen in the photo above, the senior classes used the technique perfected by MPS Grade 7/8s before them as, amid laughter and hard work energetic students lined the hall, in single file, to pass the bags up to each other relay-style.
Another very productive day at MPS as students once again learned the value and satisfaction of doing a good deed. !
