MPS Students Assist Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline Pick-UP
MANITOUWADGE, ON – 9 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes, many residents in our community are part of this statistic and Manitouwadge Public School is very pleased to be the local drop-off centre for donations to the Diabetes Clothesline® again this year. Recently there was a pick-up at the school and our grade 7 and 8 students certainly had loads of fun (pun intended) – transferring the bags of donations left by residents in the preceding weeks.
The students, who have become quite adept at this job in recent years. stood in single file, down the hall and out the door to pass the bags ‘assembly line’ style finishing the task, of transferring the bags from school to van, in record time.
A generous total of 259 garbage bags plus several boxes full of used housewares was donated through this pick-up, all destined for recycling through a partnership between the Canadian Diabetes Association Clothesline® and Value Village. 100%of net proceeds raised by Clothesline® directly support the Canadian Diabetes Association and world leading diabetes research, education and advocacy.
If you missed the opportunity to drop-off this time, you can still help! Manitouwadge Public School will be collecting for the Clothesline® throughout the year and encourages everyone to drop off their items at any time during regular school hours – 7:30am to 4pm weekdays. The school stores donations for bi-annual spring and fall pick-ups by the Canadian Diabetes Association Closthesline® .
The Clothesline accepts much more than gently used clothing, included in the items you can donate at MPS for this worthwhile cause are:
- Towels
- Draperies
- Toys
- Jewelry
- Linens
- Shoes
- Dishes
- Knick-knacks
- Furniture (in specific locations)
- Cell phones & PDAs
- All cloth items
- Small household items
- Kitchenware
- Laptops
- Tablets
Manitouwadge Public School is very proud of the students who help with moving bags and boxes of donations to storage or for pick-up, throughout the year and thanks the Grade 7 and 8’s for their enthusiasm and energy. Students and staff also thank all those who donate to this worthwhile cause. Why not look around your home, attic, garage or closet for gently used clothing or housewares that are no longer of use, cluttering your life, with the mild weather we’ve been enjoying it’s a great time for some end-of-season cleaning in preparation for the holidays just around the corner!
